June 10-12, 2016

Where History Meets the Future & Legends Come to Life!

Back when we opened the gates for the first MX Rewind, we had high hopes that it would become a destination event for vintage racers from all over. 2016 will see the 5th year anniversary of the Thor MX Rewind and we are happy to say, you have made this one of the largest vintage racing events anywhere.

The Thor MX Rewind is for racers and fans alike. There is plenty of on track motocross racing, on course cross-country racing, and on course trials competition. Thor MX Rewind is all about celebrating everything we all love about two wheel racing. While there will be plenty of on track racing action, there is more going on off the track as well. Legends will be joining us and walking around, and there will be plenty of time to get autographs, bench race with legends and your friends, nightly entertainment, and kicking back around the campfire.

Thor MX Rewind has indeed become a yearly planned destination among vintage racers and we look forward to seeing you all again as we Rewind MX once again!

All motocross racing again takes place on the Unadilla Pro National track, rewound to be vintage friendly. This is the first race of the season on the Pro National track and many of the sections will still be a grass surface on Saturday… just like days of old!

The Can-Am Challenge is to limited 5 teams of Americans and 5 teams of Canadians. Deadline continues until teams are full.

Ready to keep the cross the border rivalry alive and well? Returning to Thor MX Rewind is the Canadian-American Challenge. Last year, the US took the Cup and evened the score to 1-1. Will the Canadians stage a come back? Taking place on Sunday, June 12th, this challenge at Thor MX Rewind will allow for American versus Canadian team competition. Here is how it works:

You get together a team of 3 racers. Ideally, each team is composed of one expert rider, one amateur rider, and one novice rider. If you are short a level, you can substitute a rider from a lower level. All riders on the team must be either American citizens or Canadian citizens. Bikes must be either AHRMA vintage or post vintage eligible.

We will run one longer GP moto format.

Each team will receive a combined total points score based on the overall finishing position of each three team members. (AHRMA vintage bikes will receive a handicap rating.)

The winning team will have their names placed on a perpetual Can Am Challenge trophy that will be on display at Thor MX Rewind for years to come.

Entry may be emailed to (please follow up with a phone call or email for payment information) or mailed with a check or money order to:

While camping spots do not sell out, you can purchase your camping pass in advance online.

Staying on-site has become a favorite as people join their friends and fellow racers around the campfire. Tall tales, memories of old, make new friends, relax with beer in hand. No need to spend time going back and forth to a motel when you can put your feet up at the end of the day and motocross until, well, whenever!! Camping makes it not only easier to enjoy the Friday and Saturday night entertainment without the hassle of having to drive anywhere at the end of the evening but has you right there ready to go the next morning.

Camping spots are first come, first served and are primitive spots. Water is available to fill tanks/drums but not for individual hook up. We do our best to accommodate groups wanting to park together. If you arrive together, you park together!

  • Camping gates open Thursday, June 9th at 1pm and closes at 11 pm nightly.
  • Camping is available to both racers and spectators.
  • Modern toilets and showers are available on-site.
  • Each camping spot will hold one vehicle (including a trailer in tow)
  • Hook-ups are not available but there is access to potable water upon arrival
  • For groups wanting to camp together, you should plan to arrive together
  • Racers will be parked as close as possible to the starting line
  • Two main parking areas-you choose your area
  • Pump out service can be arranged with a local sanitation service for $30.

The legends will be arriving throughout the day on Friday and will be with us throughout the weekend. We encourage you not to be shy about approaching our legends. You would be surprised what they remember and the races you can talk about. Want something autographed? No problem… bring it along with your favorite sharpie and you’re good to go! They aren’t camera shy so practice up on your selfie skills or have someone with you help capture the moment. Feel free to make it a group photo with more than one legend or several of your buddies. Really, they are approachable and laid back.

For 2016, get ready for some new faces! Thor MX Rewind has extended invitations to several racing legends. This year, you will find representation of not only motocross legends but off-road legends as well. We were also able to add Canadian representation! Here is the preliminary list of legends from whom we have early RSVPs:

Joe Annunziata:
Joe was one of the early racers from New York to challenge what would become simply known as “Unadilla”.

Dick “King Richard” Burleson:
What a storied career! Top American finisher in the 1970 Trans-AMA series; 1970 500cc National Champion; 1974-1981 National AMA Enduro Champion (That’s 8 consecutive years!); 8 consecutive gold medals at the ISDTs, including a silver team medal at the 1973 ISDT; silver medal at the 1994 ISDT at the age of 46. Dick joins Barry Higgins as two of our 2016 legends who were “in on it from the beginning” in the U.S.

Todd DeHoop:
An early member of the “Michigan Mafia”, Todd raced from the mid-1980s to 2001. Primarily a 250cc racer, Todd did put time in on all three bikes.

John “The Junkyard Dog” Dowd:
John remains one of the most popular racers from New England. Known for being fan-friendly, John just retired after 25+ years on the Outdoor National scene.

Arlo Englund:
Arlo’s MX racing career centered around the 500cc class from 1976-1981. During that time, he finished in the top 10 three times.

Doug Henry:
1993 and 1994 125cc National Champion and 1998 250cc National Champion, Doug continues to be a fan favorite. Doug has not let a racing injury stop him and has modified a dirt bike with a roll cage so he can continue his love of racing.

Barry Higgins:
One of the first American racers to meet and beat the Europeans head on. Barry was one of the first American’s to challenge Unadilla. He is now part of the powerhouse KTM organization.

Doug “The Sweeper” Hoover:
A Canadian entry into our legends. Doug raced the American Nationals on 125cc and 250cc bikes in the mid-eighties. Doug is in the top 10 of RacerX’s list of the “Best Canadian Motocrossers Ever”.

Trey Jorski:
Team Kawasaki support rider, Trey rode with Billy Liles and Jeff Emig. He is considered by many to be one of the top money makers to come out of the privateer ranks.

Rodney Smith:
Rodney started his MX career in Brazil. While he raced the U.S. Nationals, his motocross career is probably most recognized for the 3 years he spent in Europe racing the 250cc World Championships, where he finished 3rd in 1988. Rodney has proven to be one of the most versatile American racers ever when he began racing off-road. It is there that he has carved out an amazing career as a five time GNCC Champion, 3 time AMA Hare Scrambles Champion, and 5 time AMA Enduro Champion. Rodney was inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame in 2015.

Bruce Stratton:
Bruce is one of a handful of pro racers who has ever been able to call New York home. Racing mainly in the 250cc class, Bruce competed in the AMA Nationals from 1991-2004. Able to juggle well, he competed in the Nationals while simultaneously going to college full time at RIT.

Chuck Sun:
1980 500cc National Champion and member of the 1981 winning US MX and Trophee des Nations teams. Chuck and his teammates were considered a “B” Team at the des Nations races and went on to handily beat them all!

There are many opportunities to bench race during Thor MX Rewind. Many tall tales are shared around campfires with your fellow racers and fans, but one of the most fun parts of the weekend is the time you can spend Saturday night listening to the legends bench race. The legends don’t hold back and are not afraid to poke fun at themselves or each other. We’ve spent a lot of time laughing and have had more than one OMG moment. We never really know what they will say and that’s part of the fun of the evening.

Bench racing occurs Saturday night under the big top so that you can be seated for the show. Mics and speakers enhance your experience so that you can hear what is being said even from the back. All are welcome; no ticket needed. BYOB and plan to have a fun evening with us under the big top.

There is nothing quite like the legends unplugged! It’s a laid back atmosphere so come, relax, and be ready to laugh. You don’t want to miss this part of Thor MX Rewind weekend.

Plans are being drawn up for Friday night’s festivities so be sure to check back as the event draws closer.

Saturday night will once again feature the free Gathering of Legends Dinner brought to you by Thor. Dinner will be followed by bench racing with our legends. Remember that regardless of whether you join us for the dinner, the bench racing session is open to you.

It’s been 47 years of racing at the “Grandaddy of ‘Em All”. Step back in history by spending time at the Unadilla retrospective display. See over 100 photos taken exclusively at Unadilla races from 1969-2009.

Included in the display is a letter to the AMA requesting to hold AMA sanctioned races, our first event poster, photos from the first MX des Nations to be held in the U.S. when it ran at Unadilla in 1987, Trans-AMA, Trans-USA, and GP events.

The Unadilla Archive continues with a look back at event posters over the years and the Unadilla Walk-of-Fame with inductees Roger DeCoster, Mike LaRocco, Jimmy Weinert, the 1987 MX des Nations team of Bob Hannah, Ricky Johnson, and Jeff Ward, and Doug Henry.

Have some cool Unadilla pics you want to show off? We have an area in the archive where you can display your favorite Unadilla picture for others to enjoy and then it can go back home with you so you can continue to enjoy it!
